As the first mayor of the City of South Fulton, William “Bill” Edwards brought stability to a young city and laid the groundwork for sustainable growth. Under his leadership, the city established vital departments, strengthened public safety, attracted new businesses, and prioritized infrastructure and community services.
Bill has consistently championed transparency, economic development, and smart planning, while building trusted relationships across local, state, and federal levels to bring results home. His leadership turned vision into visible progress.
When the City of South Fulton needed its very first mayor, the people chose William “Bill” Edwards—and he hit the ground running. Elected in 2017 with 60% of the vote, Bill didn’t waste a second. On day one, he held the city’s first council meeting and got South Fulton’s leadership team in place.
But Mayor Edwards is no stranger to service. For 14 years, he represented South Fulton as District 7 Commissioner—advocating for neighborhoods across Southwest Fulton, including Union City, Fairburn, College Park, and more. For over 30 years, he’s lived right here in the city he proudly serves. His door is always open, and he’s never too busy to stop and listen.
From starting the “Mayor’s Walk” to hear directly from residents, to launching safety town halls like “Don’t Be a Target,” Mayor Bill puts people first. He’s focused on building a city we can all be proud of—safe, sustainable, and full of opportunity.
He’s a Morehouse man, a father and grandfather, a man of faith, and a community-first leader through and through. Whether it’s growing businesses, creating jobs, or bringing neighbors together, Mayor Bill Edwards believes in South Fulton—and in working together to make it even better.
