In 2005, Fulton County District 7 Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards hosted a demonstration showcasing a protective window film designed to prevent “smash and grab” thefts. Aimed at homeowners, the event took place on May 7 at the Footworks Store on Cascade Road in Atlanta, while a separate demonstration for business owners was held on May 6.
This protective window film served as an alternative to burglar bars, which are often prohibited by zoning and code regulations in some communities. The Fulton County Police Department also participated, providing safety and security tips for both businesses and homeowners.
The demonstration highlighted the film’s effectiveness, showing that windows treated with the film would not break even after repeated blows from a baseball bat.
Businesses interested in demonstrating their security products could contact various associations, including the Cascade Business and Merchants Association, the Old National Merchants Association, the Airport Area Chamber of Commerce, and Partnership for Tomorrow.
